Ms. Wakesho has over a decade of experience in the control and elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), during which she has established herself as a skilled and passionate leader in public health. Trained as a Medical Parasitologist, she brings both scientific rigor and programmatic insight to the field.

Currently serving as an Assistant Director, Medical Parasitologist at the Ministry of Health, she plays a pivotal role in shaping national strategies against tropical infectious diseases. Prior to this, she led Kenya’s Schistosomiasis and Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis programme under the Division of Vector Borne and Neglected Tropical Diseases, where she oversaw the design and implementation of large-scale interventions targeting some of the country’s most persistent health challenges.

Her academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, and a Master of Science in Medical Parasitology from Maseno University.

The CEMA fellow is currently pursuing a PhD in Tropical and Infectious Diseases at the University of Nairobi.
