Stephen Okeyo is a Research Scientist at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), specializing in the molecular ecology and control of vector-borne diseases. He currently co-manages the East Africa Vector Surveillance (EaVeS) Project, where he serves as the technical lead, seamlessly integrating advanced entomological, molecular, and bioinformatics methodologies. His expertise makes him a primary driver of the project's data analysis, interpretation, and subsequent scientific communication efforts.
His extensive professional background is rooted in impactful cross-sector contributions. He previously supported field surveillance and vectorial capacity estimation for the USAID - Presidential Malaria Initiative, directly impacting strategic public health efforts. Furthermore, he applied his scientific acumen in the private sector, informing sub-national tailoring and marketing strategies as a Technical Officer for the Swiss-based bed net manufacturer, Vestergaard. His current strategic focus at CEMA involves leveraging mathematical modeling and cost-effectiveness analysis to develop a crucial policy document on alternative Leishmaniasis vector control tools, demonstrating his commitment to translating research into actionable public health policy.
Outside of his demanding scientific pursuits, Stephen maintains a rigorous personal discipline as a dedicated mid-distance marathoner, covering approximately ∼85km weekly. He finds balance and respite through time spent with his two pet dogs, Samantha and Spark.
