Gurdeep pursued a Ph.D. in Tropical and Infectious Diseases at the University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases. Her Ph.D. study focused on developing and optimizing methods for genomic surveillance of the rabies virus in East Africa with the aim of addressing timely applied questions about the transmission, spread, and persistence, and diversity of the rabies virus in East Africa. Her Ph.D. was jointly supervised by Prof Katie Hampson and Dr. Kirstyn Brunker from the University of Glasgow and was funded through the Wellcome Trust and the NIHR Application of Genomics and Modelling to the Control of Virus Pathogens (GeMVi) project.
