Dr. Marybeth C. Maritim is a Senior Lecturer and Thematic Head, Unit of Clinical Infectious Diseases at the Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics, University of Nairobi. She is a consultant physician at Kenyatta National Hospital and Mbagathi County Hospital with Infectious Disease and Tropical Medicine with over 13 years clinical experience. Her clinical duties at Kenyatta National and Mbagathi County Hospital (referral hospital for Nairobi County) involve review, management and follow-up of adult in-patients and out-patients with various infectious diseases. Her research interests encompasse Internal Medicine, Vaccinology, Tropical and Infectious diseases including Zoonotic infections and Neglected Tropical Diseases. She has co-supervised more than twenty Masters theses to completion. She holds a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine (MMED - Internal Medicine) degree from the University of Nairobi (UON) and subspecialty training in Clinical Tropical Medicine obtained from the Gorgas Memorial Institute of Tropical and Preventive Diseases in Lima, Peru. Dr Maritim currently serves in several national advisory committees. She has been co-chair of the Kenya National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (KENITAG) since 2014 and more recently member, National Vaccine Safety Advisory Committee (NVSAC) since 2018. She is a member of the NASCOP HIV Guideline Review Committee and was involved in the development and dissemination of the 2018 Guidelines on the Use of Antiretroviral Drugs for Treating and Preventing HIV in Kenya. She is currently involved in the revision of these guidelines to incorporate new evidence-based changes. She is a member of the TB/HIV Technical Working Group (TWG), Ministry of Health, Kenya. Since March 2020, she has been a member of the National COVID-19 Technical Taskforce under Ministry of Health serving in the case management sub-committee. She has contributed to the development of the various COVID-19 guidelines in Kenya namely: COVID-19 case management guidelines, human-resource for health guidelines and home-based isolation and care guidelines.
