Epidemiology and Economics

Gerald Githinji is a Laboratory Scientist at the National Public Health Institute (NPHI), where he supports public health emergency management at the institute. His responsibilities include: Disease outbreak response and surveillance, coordination of health emergencies and disaster risk management, and training and supervising students on attachment and internship.
Gerald holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Kenyatta University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (Biology/ Chemistry option) from Moi University and a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Eldoret. He is currently a student at the Technical University of Kenya pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Biotechnology. Gerald is an Infectious Disease Modelling Fellow at the Center for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (CEMA) and also a recipient of the 2024 Interuniversity Program Molecular Biology (IPMB) scholarship.
Outside of work, Gerald is a web developer and enjoys designing and coding websites, web and mobile applications, depending on the final users’ needs.
