Nthumba has joined CEMA as a Data Science Intern, where he contributes to statistical modeling across a range of health research projects. His responsibilities include developing reproducible analysis pipelines, building insightful visualizations, and supporting data-driven initiatives that inform public health decision making across Kenya and Africa.

Joseph holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Columbia University. During his studies, he conducted neurobiological research at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and volunteered as a mentor and tutor for STEM enthusiastic students from disadvantaged backgrounds. He also collaborated with health researchers at AIC Kijabe Hospital, Northwestern University, and Weill Cornell Medicine to address disparities in healthcare access in rural Sub-Saharan Africa. These experiences strengthened his expertise in complex data analysis and enhanced his ability to communicate scientific insights for real-world impact.

In his free time, Joseph enjoys exploring open-source machine learning models and playing futsal.
